Black & White

What’s up people?

So today we’ll be doing a new kind of entry on hand discussion, called black and white. On this section I’ll show you two interesting hands of my last few sessions of any kind of game, one will be a “nh” kind of hand, and the other will be a “omg you suck” kind of hand. I’ll try to avoid any bad beat, “omg online is rigged” or any other kind hands related more to variance than poker itself. Both hands are independent and played on different sessions.

The main objective of this entry is to show you what I’m thinking, while playing and try to show you my strengths and leaks, and of course you can comment and leave your opinion. btw: what I may think is a nh, for some people could be an awful hand, and vice-versa, so don’t be shy, I’m open to any criticism ^^

So here we go,

White:

So villain is a total LAG 37/31/3.73 sit on my right, I got a TAG image for 24/19/3.91. Villain has been constantly stealing my BB, I have been card dead on that spot, so I didn’t fought back. He is ultra aggressive on big pots, betting, reraising and donk betting a lot. Last hand he won a 3way 3betted pot he being the aggressor, and I think he had a big hand there.

The hand:

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 4 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

UTG: $28.90
BTN: $21.45
SB: $48.65
Hero (BB): $37.85

Pre-Flop: Q 9 dealt to Hero (BB)
2 folds, SB raises to $0.75,

So here you are trying to steal my BB again, your HR should be so freaking weak… you know what? I’m gonna 3bet your rags

Hero raises to $2.25, SB calls $1.50

My read here? You may have some crappy Axs, T8s, low pp or any crap like that… you looking for trouble, eh?

Flop: ($4.50) J T 8 (2 Players)

LOL, hope you have found some drawy cards, and get all agg as always…

SB checks,

Ok, I hope that doesn’t mean you missed

Hero bets $3.50,

Go value

SB raises to $8,

Lovely, but is a shame at the same time coz it’s probably all I will get on this hand, coz I’ve seen him reraise/fold a 3betted pot before, when he wasn’t the original aggressor. So I’ll just call and hope there s no 9 on turn and he bets again…

Hero calls $4.50

Turn: ($20.50) J T 8 [ Q ] (2 Players)

Not a REALLY bad card (AK I suppose he has not), we could be splitting, I could be dead against K9, but mostly still ahead

SB bets $8,

Really? I think your drawing days are over my friend…

Hero raises to $27.60 and is All-In,

Sampson son. said, "you are lucky"
Flak_4tt4ck said, "nah"
Flak_4tt4ck said, "just **** turn"
Flak_4tt4ck said, "I know you have like J3"

Some trash talk to make him call with marginal… even if I pretty much think he’s not, and that he has garbage and was trying to make a move

SB folds

Results: $36.50 Pot ($1.75 Rake)
Hero mucked Q 9 and WON $34.75 (+$16.50 NET)

I think villain is a player who likes to take back the aggression lost pf. And I try to let him bet out that big pot when I know he is very aggressive and I’m pretty sure I’m ahead. I know betting for value is really important most of the time, but what I did was total pot control, I bet when I wanted to bet for value, and as I saw the guy wanted some action, I let him bet out for me and try not to scare him with a reraise to his CR flop. At turn I have to go all in, coz the Q opens the door to a hell of bad beating possibilities, and the pot is pretty much big at that moment.

Black
:

Next hand is an example of bad playing mixed to bad informational process. Villain has been playing for a few hands (15) and I only have a significant note: donk bets with flopped set on low flop. So basically I made the mistake of assuming that it’d be his unique move with a “monster”.

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 6 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

SB: $45.55
BB: $20
UTG: $54.55
MP: $10.05
CO: $25
Hero (BTN): $24.50

Pre-Flop: 5 6 dealt to Hero (BTN)
3 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, SB calls $0.65, BB calls $0.50

Flop: ($2.25) 9 5 6 (3 Players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $1.50, SB raises to $3, BB folds, Hero raises to $9, SB raises to $44.80 and is All-In, Hero calls $14.75 and is All-In

Turn: ($49.75) 9 5 6 [ K ] (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

River: ($49.75) 9 5 6 K [ K ] (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Results: $49.75 Pot ($2.45 Rake)
SB showed 8 7 (a straight, Five to Nine) and WON $47.30 (+$22.80 NET)
Hero mucked 5 6 and LOST (-$24.50 NET)

After I reraise his CR, I should have know I’m beat, but still put the money on the middle against a fine player =/
I should care more about those all in with marginal hands, I know how to beat the game and think in this case was absolutely unnecessary...

congrats for your blog!
just 1 question:don t you think it s better to stop playing after you won a big pot for 5 or ten hands(except premiums hands )? or you think that all the hands are independent?

That's a very interesting question marrage. I feel like writing an entry just about that ^^
Right now I can tell you that as always it depends... I know you are talking about avoid playing for a few hands and then come back, but you can also ask yourself wheter or not you should just stop playing or not?

I do think that every hand is independent on some math level, but it also depends of metagame. In this entry you see how decisions on white depend of this metagame, and decisions on black, well mostly not...

The truth is that it all depends on you. A disciplinary aproach of poker as mine would suggest to keep your goals of the day (like 500 hands by session, or one multitable session of 1 hour, or 5 PTBB/100 won on +200 hands, etc...) as your only reference, and then just play your game whatever it happens.

But if I feel that I'm not playing well or that I'm already satisfied with my winnings at that moment but I'm not on the mood to play, I just stop. I'm 100% sure that the most important thing for a regular poker player is motivation, and if you want to be regular you ought to be excited to play.

It's going a little bit too long so I'll write tomorrow an entry about it. If you want to develop your question it will be top noch ^^ (are you affraid of losing the pot you have just played? Do you ask because I say that villain have just won a big pot?)

thx for the question

c-ya =)

hi Flack eyed peas!
thx for your answer!

I ask you that because I understand that the second hand you show arrived exactly after the first! And when i play I try to stop for a little time when I win a big pot for trying to don t loose the money I take time to earn, with a cooler that can happens just after. If the cooler happens in an other moment that's the game that's poker!
I think it's the better choice to avoid tilt for me and my game !And the disciplinary is the most important for me and I lost a lot of money in the past because i did not respect my goal(time, max money ..)

I am not affraid to loose a big pot because that s the game my poor Lucette!
If my answer is not clear i will switch in french for not loosing information.

Ooops ok I see it... No Black and White are totally independent, played different days, against different players.

But that doesn't change a thing, I'm working on the entry right now ^^

TPTK and Bottom 2 pairs are the worst hands when pot size increases a lot

I think your ready for the next level (as soon as your BR will be )
