Hey, hey, hey!!!
How much time would you be able to live without Poker (P as in God-like-game)? A day? A week? A year? All your life?
I don’t think people really ask themselves this question enough on their poker carriers. Last Holydays I was in Spain and I had no Internet conection at all (well, if 56Kbps is a conection...). I knew it before taking the days off and also knew that when I’ll came back, I’ll have to pass my exams and stuff. Then it came up to me that I’ll have to pass the whole month without playing...
December wasn’t the best of the months, and I thought that a little pause wouldn’t come that bad anyway, but I didn’t really wanted to stop playing the whole month. I wondered if I was able to stop playing just like that. At the beginning it was quite dramatic not only because I couldn’t play, but also ‘coz I’m an Internet addict lol; and couldn’t even do what I do on my daily routine, like checking news, forums or mails, but also setting my hattrick team! (Oh yeah, hattrick is an Internet based game in wich you manage a football team. For more information on Hattrick). So no poker and no internet was getting me on the nerves.
I spend 2 weeks at Badajoz (near to Portugal) with my gf’s family, and it was fantastic and all, but I missed a lot playing poker. I got to say that a standard week for me is to go to class the morning, then 1 day over 2, I go to work the afternoon and then play poker at night. The weekend is working and working like a "standard" slave lol. So taking these days off came at the best of times for me to rest a little bit, but I felt like something was missing.
Then when I came back I had another 2 weeks on exams, and it was really exhausting. I missed the 3 Limpers tourneys of 7-8-9 January, while I was studying all night long, and it really pissed me off to let you get more points over me for free
. What is important is that I realised that it wasn’t really that bad not playing poker for a month, I mean yeah missing the SH was kinda uncool since my last result was pretty good
, but I find out that what I was really missing was what poker represents to me: my hobby, my entreteinment, the time on my life where I can do what I like to do. I mean, I found out that while I’m playing poker it means I got nothing more important to do, like studying or working, and be the lazzy being I am
I still think asking yourself how much “addiction” to the game you have, helps you to have some perspective, and decide what you want or you don’t want to do. Is not the same playing ‘coz you can’t avoid rather than playing ‘coz you like it. I also think that it helps you to improve your game, ‘coz you’ll be playing to win and not simply because it’s a routine. I’m really happy with my B-C game lately and I think it has a lot to do with this fact.
I'll explain that to you on my next entry, wich will have my latest results,
c-ya!
